HAITI
Better Future Haiti currently operates a successful small orphan home in the town of Cyavidier, outside of Jacmel. Since 2005, the home has sheltered 11 children who were orphaned after the destruction Hurricane Jeanne caused in 2004. Although there is no Family Care Model in place yet, Better Future Haiti is in search for people within the extended family (grandparents, aunt, uncle, cousins, siblings, etc.) to care for the orphan children.
TANZANIA
The Salama Center, Better Future´s family care program in Tanzania, opened in January 2009 and currently serves 26 orphaned children and their households - approximately 145 people. This community center is based in Majengo Village in the Moshi region of Tanzania and maintains family structure for the orphaned children.
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
The Casa Ana Center, Better Future InternationalŐs family care program in Azua, Dominican Republic, opened up its doors in July 2009. During the summer it served the needs of 25 orphaned children ages 6-16 and their families. Eventually one hundred children will benefit from the after school program throughout the year. Casa Ana will serve as a family care center that will provide assistance and support to the children´s caretakers by maintaining family structures through our Family Care Model. The model applies the concept of kinship care while supporting extended family members´s ability to provide care for orphaned children.
